Annual Acquisition Records 1936 - 1940

bulletKO0534 Photo of Wooden Memorial Cross to Sergeant Herbert Dobson MM, number 2746, 1st/5th Battalion, King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment. Killed in Action 9 Aug 1916 on the Somme. This cross is one of over 200 painted by Corporal R Bell, 241639 in France and Flanders.  Dobson enlisted on 3 Sep 1914 and went overseas on 5 May 1915. He was killed in action near Trones Wood, in the attack on Guillemont.   Sergeant Herbert Dobson was the son of Robert and Sarah Ann Dobson, of 31 Dundee Street, Moorlands, Lancaster (although during the war lived at 75 Windermere Road). He is buried in Quarry Cemetery, Montauban, Somme, France. Gift of Mr R H Bell, Lancaster.

Only a proportion of our collections are on display at anyone time.  Certain items are on loan for display in other institutions.  An appointment is required to consult any of our collections which are held in store.
