Silver War Badge

Whilst the 'Silver War Badge' is a badge issued to soldiers who were discharged due to sickness or wounds in the First World War, it may also be recorded as a 'medal' in so far that it was issued from a roll, and each badge has a unique serial number.

The museum holds a full transcript of the Silver War Badge Roll for the King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.  The roll shows the soldiers details including name, rank, date of enlistment and date of discharge.  Reason for discharge is usually shown, but this may simply be one of two things: "Wound" or "Sick".

Only a proportion of our collections are on display at anyone time.  Certain items are on loan for display in other institutions.  An appointment is required to consult any of our collections which are held in store.
