Identity Discs

German Identity Disc First World War

The alloy disc dates from after November 1916.  The soldier's information is repeated at the top and bottom of the disc, and the perforations allow for the disc to be snapped in two.  On the death of the soldier one part would remain with the body and the other forwarded to Headquarters so the death could be recorded.
