Private Harry Rawes
Private Harry Rawes, number 2918, 1st/5th Battalion, King’s Own Royal
Lancaster Regiment.
Born in 1893, Harry enlisted on the 10th September 1914 as one of the
‘Morecambe Pals’. He served in France from February 1915 and was wounded
shortly afterwards. He was back in Morecambe in July 1915 where he
received a ‘Wounded Soldier’ ticket from Morecambe Corporation for use
on their tramways whilst invalided. When he recovered he returned to
service with the Labour Corps and later the Royal Defence Corps. Harry
was discharged in March 1919. Harry died, aged 75 years in February
1969.
