Alloy/Aluminium Identity Discs, circa 1906-First World War
Metal identity discs were introduced for British soldiers from 1906. The disc would include details such as the name, number, regiment and religion of the soldier. They survived into the First World War even after their official replacement by the fibre discs in 1914.
Only a proportion of our collections are on display at anyone time. Certain items are on loan for display in other institutions. An appointment is required to consult any of our collections which are held in store.
