Borough of Lancaster First World War Tribute Card, 1919

"A Tribute from the Mayor, Aldermen, & Burgesses of the Borough of Lancaster as representing the inhabitants of the Borough to the honoured memory of ___________ who died for his King and Country in the Great War"  Signed by William Briggs, Mayor of Lancaster, 1919.

Company Sergeant Major Ernest Alldis, number 8498, 2nd Battalion, King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.  Killed in action, 20th February 1915.   Son of John Alldis of The Widden Lane, Hopton, Stafford, husband of Emma Alldis of 31, Willow Lane, The Marsh, Lancaster.  Commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.

Private John Albert Crossley, number 1805, A Company, 1st/5th Battalion, King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.  Died of wounds 1st July 1915.

Private Bryan Cumpsty, number 27456, 1st Battalion, King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.  Killed in action, 28th June 1917, age 23.  Son of Sarah Ann Cumpsty and the late Bryan Cumpsty of 1 Hala Road, Scotforth, Lancaster.  Also shown as 'Cumpstey'.  Commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.

Private James Simpson, number 1515, 1st/5th Battalion, King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.  Killed in action on 23rd April 1917.  Commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
