Hodgkinson dated 28 Jan 1921 concerning her son, Private James Waring,
number 20404 of the 1st/5th Battalion regarding a souvenir card.
Medal roll shows that Private James Waring served with the 8th

Own.
“Dear Sir,
I have seen tonight a
card in memory of long days and nights in the trenches etc. which you
kindly sent to Mrs Gregg in July 1919 she had lost a son in the King’s
Own Royal Lancaster Regiment. I lost my fourth son, Private James
Waring, number 20404 belonging to the same Regiment, between 18 Jul
and 20 Jul 1916, if it is possible for me to get one will you be good
enough to tell me how to go about it. I lost my eldest son who was
mate in a minesweeper which was blown up on 27 Oct 1917, my third son
Edward was wounded in France and was also in the King’s Own. I have
been in very indifferent health for some time, I should be so pleased
if I could get this memorial card to have it framed. I apologise for
troubling you but feel sure you will tell me if you can. Yours
respectfully, Jane Waring.”
A card was issued on 31
Jan 1921. |
