In-Pensioner/Sergeant John Beattie


Graves of In Pensioner/Sergeant John Beattie, Brookwood Military Cemetery.
Died on 4th January 1970, aged 66 years at the Infirmary, Royal Hospital, Chelsea.
Ex-Sergeant John Beattie, number 3704547, joined the King’s Own Royal Regiment on 2nd May 1922 at the age of just under 19 in the Territorial Army, enlisting in the Regulars on 9th June 1966.  He served with the Regiment until August 1943 when he later transferred to the Green Howards. Records show that he was appointed Lance Corporal in 1935 whilst serving with the 2nd Battalion. He retired in 1945 having completed 28 1/2 years’ military service. He became an In-Pensioner at the Royal Hospital in July 1965 until his death. Mr Charles Case, the London Branch Old Comrades Secretary, attended the funeral.
