The Active Service Company of the 1st Volunteer Battalion of the King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment at Bowerham Barracks, Lancaster, prior to their departure to South Africa in 1900.  The Active Service Company was formed of volunteers who were going to assist the regular forces in the 'Boer War' of 1899-1902.

Mess Room 'Old Barracks' in Lancaster, circa 1890, which probably means that it is the mess room used by the 3rd and 4th (Militia) Battalions of the King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.  The Militia occupied wooden buildings within Bowerham Barracks.

Architect's model of the proposed Church of England Teachers' Training College, to be constructed on the Bowerham Barracks site, Lancaster.  Many new buildings were constructed on the parade ground, but many of the original buildings were to be retained, such as the Barrack Blocks, Married Quarters, Officers Mess and Armoury.
