Official First World War Memorial Scroll to the Fallen

At the end of the First World War the relatives of those who fell received their medals along with a Memorial Plaque and Scroll. 


This memorial scroll was issued in memory of Private Robert Bond of the 1st/5th Battalion, King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.

Each Memorial Scroll was sent with the above letter from the King.

Scrolls were mailed out in cardboard tubes.

Private John Baines MM, number 3817/241416, 1st/5th King's Own, died of wounds on 8th August 1918, age 22.  Buried in Pernes British Cemetery.

Private Robert Bond, number 3749/241376, 1st/5th Battalion, King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.  Killed in action, 30th November 1917.  Son of Alfred and Eleanor Bond, of 6 Ashbrook Street, Lancaster.  Commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial, Louveral, France.

Private Albert Benjamin Brace, number 2138, 1st Battalion, King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.  Died of wounds, 17th May 1915.  Buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, France.

Private William Chorley, number 27499, 1st/5th Battalion, King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.  Also served with the 8th and 11th Battalions.  Killed in action, 20th September 1917.  Son of the late John Chorley and of Elizabeth Ann Gardner (formerly Chorley) of 43 Quebec Street, Ulverston.

Private Joseph Connerton, number 265562, 1st/5th Battalion, King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.  Killed in action, 30th November 1917.  Commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial, Louverval, France.

Private Bryan Cumpsty, number 27456, 1st Battalion, King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.  Killed in action, 28th June 1917, age 23.  Son of Sarah Ann Cumpsty and the late Bryan Cumpsty of 1 Hala Road, Scotforth, Lancaster.  Also shown as 'Cumpstey'.  Commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.

Private Percy Edwards, number 17167, 1st Battalion, King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.  Died on 3rd July 1916, age 23.  Son of Charles and Louisa Edwards of 106 Godolphin Road, Shepherd's Bush, London.  Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.

Sergeant Alfred Fishwick, number 241008, 'B' Company, 2nd/5th King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.  Killed in action 26 October 1917, age 20.  Son of William Henry and Mary Fishwick of 4 The Crescent, Galgate, Lancaster.  Commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.

Sergeant George Edward Harrison, number 23629, 8th Battalion, King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.  Died of wounds, 1st September 1918, age 31.  Husband of Gertrude Harrison of 4 Cutler Greens, Stackshead, Bacup, Lancashire.  Buried in Bac-du-Sud British Cemetery, Bailleulval, France.

Corporal Benjamin Atkinson Kirkby, number 201062, 1st/4th Battalion, King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.  Killed in action, 8th August 1916.  Lived at 195 Albert Square, Millom with his father.  Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.  Also shown as 'Kirby'.

Private James Lamb, number 3007, 1st/5th Battalion, King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.  Killed in action, 20th October 1916, age 19.  Son of Mr and Mrs Richard Lamb of Broadacre, Caton, Lancashire.  Private Lamb is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Poperinge, Belgium.
