“Great War 1939-46”
1940, Lancaster had its experience of enemy aerial bombardment. 50 incendiary bombs were dropped in Bowerham district, 12 fell on houses, 17 in Gardens and 9, in roadways in vicinity of Bowerham Barracks. One youth, age 17, was the only one hurt, overcome by throwing water on a bomb, overcome by fumes.
31 Aug 1940 11.20 at night, Lancaster was the first city or two in the County to be bombed.”
