Soldiers of the Regiment

Private George William Keen

Private George William Keen, number 1950, of the 1st/5th Battalion, King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment. Died 16 Aug 1915. Born Ulverston and enlisted in Lancaster. Lived at Hawthorn Cottage, Silverdale. Buried in Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery, Belgium.
Stated to have been with the 5th Battalion for four years, but appears, from his number, to have re-enlisted at the start of the war. Overseas 14 Feb 1915. He was with C Company when wounded on 13 Apr 1915 but returned to duty. Soldiers Died in the Great War shows him as killed in action, but the 14/15 Star roll states he Died of wounds on 16 Aug 1915.
