1930s Photos from an unknown soldier

Photographs from the collection of an unknown soldier who served with the 1st and 2nd Battalions in the latter part of the 1930s.

 


Postcard featuring the troopship ‘HMT Somersetshire’ and the words ‘Cheerio Till We Meet Again’. Written in ink on the rear “Dear Dad, best of luck, your son, Pat. “This is our Troopship, and we sail tomorrow at five pm.”

1st Battalion, King’s Own Royal Regiment, group of ten soldiers of the King’s Own. India, circa 1935. One of whom is reading the ‘News of the World’. Another is polishing his boots. The soldiers have solar topees which have a cloth patch on the side, assumed to be red, with either brass shoulder titles or embroidered ‘King’s Own’ rather than cap badges.
