Pen and ink sketch of an un-identified Captain of the King’s Own Royal Regiment, and his dog. Drawn by Private Robert Lyon, of ‘A’ Company, No. 12 Battalion, Royal Army Ordnance Corps, Old Dalby, Melton Mowbray.
Robert Lyon drew a number of military portraits in the Second World War and a collection of images of fellow soldiers/officers who were based at the Central Ordnance Depot at Old Dalby in Leicestershire in 1941.
He was trained at the Glasgow School of Arts and Julian’s in Paris. He was a member of the Scottish School of Artists. He taught at the Academy in Dumfries, 1938-40 before joining the Royal Army Ordnance Corps in the war. Born 1894 died 1978.
His details are shown on the rear of the sketch, but the first part of his army number has been trimmed off. All that can be seen is x542689
