Collections - Sports Medals

Warrant Officer Class 2 John Bamford

Warrant Officer Class 2 John Bamford, enlisted on 27th January 1905 at the age of 18 years and 10 months and received the number 8503. He appears to have served with the 1st King’s Own prior the war and arrived with them on the Western Front on 23rd August 1914. He was taken prisoner at Le Cateau and had still not been repatriated by 6th January 1919. After the First World War his number was changed to 3701381.
He received the 1914 Star, British War and Allied Victory Medals and in 1923 the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. He was discharged at Preston on 18th May 1923. His home address on discharge was 12 Woodside Cottage, Endmoor, Kendal, Westmorland.
