Lance Corporal William Robinson


Identity Disc, Home Made, ‘W Robinson 21158 King’s Own Regt’
Accession Number: KO2940/40

Lance Corporal William Robinson, number 14368 and 21158.
Enlisted on 12th September 1914 and received the number 14368 later changed to 21158. He went overseas to France on 4th September 1915 and served with 9th Battalion, King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.  He went with the battalion to Salonika.  Wounded at least three times, once by bayonet under his arm.

The Kendal Mercury of 31st March 1916 reported:
"The well known Cumberland wrestler of the King’s Own has been wounded in Salonika whither he went from France."
