Soldiers of the Regiment

Regimental Sergeant Major Thomas Richmond

Thomas Richmond enlisted into the Manchester Regiment as number 3516232, and later transferred to the King's Own Royal Regiment.  He was promoted Corporal in January 1927 and Sergeant in 1931.  In 1937, as a Sergeant, he marched in the Coronation Procession and received the 1937 Coronation Medal, two years later he received the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in 1939 with the rank of Warrant Officer Class 2.  He became Regimental Sergeant Major of one of the newly created wartime Pioneer Battalions of the King's Own and served with them in the British Expeditionary Force in 1940, and withdrawn through Dunkirk.  He later served at the Regimental Depot at Bowerham Barracks.  He died at Oswestry on 13th August 1943. The Mayor of Lancaster's comfort's fund cards give two addresses in Lancaster for him in Coverdale Road and Gregson Road. 


Grave of WO1 (RSM) Thomas Richmond, number 3516232, King's Own Royal Regiment, Twickenham Parochial Cemetery.  WO1 Richmond died on 13th August 1943, the husband of Winifred Mabel Richmond of Teddington.
