Soldiers of the Regiment

Private George Griffiths

Private George Griffiths appears in this group photograph, research suggests his number was 49119 and he enlisted on 11th December 1915 and served with the 1st Battalion of the King's Own.  He was wounded and the photograph, taken in Harwich, suggests he spent time with the 3rd Battalion before he was discharged on 16th July 1919 due to the wounds.

Group of nine King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment soldiers at Harwich, possibly of the 3rd Battalion.
The soldier second from the left with his face partially obscured by damage to the photograph is Private George Griffiths.  This is believed to be Private George Griffiths, number 49119, who enlisted on 11th December 1915 and discharged on 16th July 1919 due to wounds.  He served with the 1st Battalion of the King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.
Some of the braces worn by the soldiers are also marked with numbers, assumed to be their regimental numbers.  The soldier standing on the left appears to be 49113, which suggests he could be Private John Wilson, also of the 1st Battalion, King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.  The soldier standing in the middle appears to be 49133, his number has not yet been traced to a name.
Photograph taken at the Entente Studio, Harwich.
Accession Number: KO2793/01
