Musician, 4th Foot, 1780s

Photograph of watercolour drawing of musician of the 4th Foot, circa 1780s.
“Charles M Leffert’s 1912 reconstruction of the uniform of the 4th Foot’s company musicians. Leffert’s depiction, which belongs to the New York Historical Society, was heavily influenced by the cryptic inspection return dated 7 Apr 1774, which is quoted in part above: “Light infantry accoutrements not according to regulation, being white. Men’s hats have scalloped lace. Light Infantry Company has a German post-horn to give signals. 6 Musicians.””
Accession Number: KO2779/01
