“A field card received by Mr and Mrs John Mason, of 50 Addlecroft, Scotforth Road, Lancaster, announces that their fifth son, Private George Mason, King’s Own, has been wounded and admitted to hospital. Mason is an old boy of Scotforth School, and had for eight years been assistant to Messrs W S Low and Co., oil and colour merchants, Church Street, when he enlisted in November last. He was been at the front since March. On Wednesday official news was received that Mason was wounded, together with an intimation that his belongings would be sent home.
