Lance Corporal Allan Shaw

Lance Corporal Allan Shaw spent time at the Storey Institute in Lancaster before serving with the King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.  It is known that he designed a Christmas Card for the 55th West Lancashire Division in 1917 and it is believed he designed the 1918 Christmas Card as well.

The printed card is marked with the initials ‘A.S.’ which could indicate the card was designed by Lance corporal Allan Shaw of the King’s Own.
Lancaster Observer, early 1917, “A New Year Card has been designed for the 55th West Lancashire Division by Lance corporal Allan Shaw, King’s Own, who for ten months has been working in the general staff. The design gives glimpses of the ruin… Ypres. Lance corporal Shaw was an art student at the Storey Institute, and on several occasions his design has been reproduced on the programme of the student’s annual social….”
