Robert Huddleston
Private Robert Huddleston, number 3717631, enlisted on 17th October
1940 for the duration of the war. He served with the 8th Battalion
of the King's Own in Malta and then moved to Palestine with the
battalion and he was with them when they were re-titled the 1st
Battalion and served with them throughout the campaign in Italy in 1944
and 1945.

Newspaper cutting, telling the story how 1 King’s Own was involved in
action in Italy in 1944, including mention of Pte D. Huddleston.
From newspaper cutting:
“The Story of how a German Tiger tank in North Italy was lured on to one
of the enemy’s own mines and blown up, and how some of the men of a
carrier platoon of the King’s Own Royal Regt. (Lancaster) went forward
with the infantry, while others were attending a fete to celebrate a
village’s liberation, is told by a military observer. Among those taking
part in the fighting he names Private Thomas
Whalley of 37 Adelphi Street, Lancaster, Private Walter
Bancroft, 8 Seymour Street, Fleetwood, Private Robert Huddleston of 19
Havelock Road, Windermere, Corporal Thomas Lickess of 31 Roose Road,
Barrow in Furness and Corporal William Orrell of 4 Waterfield Street,
Darwen.”
