Private Walter Jenkins

Private Walter Jenkins of the 11th and 8th Battalions of the King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.
Born on the 29th July 1891, at 92 Regent Street, Leeds, Yorkshire, he was the son of Henry Jenkins and Maria (nee Downs). Later he was living at 60 Rudyard Street, Harpurhey, Manchester. “Walter was not a very tall man and I believe under the required height - could he have been with the 11th Battalion?” Walter was known to the Bantam Weight boxers Johnny King and Jackie Brown.
Records confirm that Private Walter Jenkins, number 21364, was with D Company of 11th Battalion, and then later with the 8th Battalion in the First World War. He was taken prisoner towards the end of the war.
Accession Number: KO2590/324
