Soldiers of the Regiment

Private Arthur Edward Atherton

From his daughter: “He was born in Liverpool in 1899 and I seem to think he was with another regiment before the King’s Own. Towards the end of the war he and his fellow soldiers rushed through France and up to the Front line. The following morning they would have been in the midst of battle but that very day everything stopped and peace was declared. My mother and I used to tease him and say that the Germans capitulated when they heard that he was next in battle!”
Also served with the Lancashire Fusiliers as number 68507.
