Soldiers of the Regiment

Private William Edward Sellars

Private William Edward Sellars, number 14594494, of the 1st Battalion, King's Own Royal Regiment, served in Italy in 1944 and 1945 as a member of the Pioneer Platoon, of Headquarter Company.  He was wounded in action and later died of those wounds on 14th January 1946.

Pair of plastic spectacles, ‘These were given to Private Sellars at the casualty clearing station by the stretcher bearers that had brought him in. They belonged to a Ghurka soldier who had lain over him during an enemy barrage, after he had been wounded, and when the stretcher bearers had found them the unknown Ghurka was dead.
