Private Edwards was employed as a despatch rider at the cross roads
south east of Vlamertinghe on the afternoon of 27 May 1940. He was on
duty controlling traffic when this point was under hostile shell and
machine gun fire. Without regard to his personal safety he carried out
his task until all his units transport had safely passed this danger
point. At Oostvleteren on 29 May 1940 he carried messages three times
through the town whilst it was being shelled and bombed. Throughout the
operation his conduct was of an exemplary character.
