Watched by the Mayor of Lancaster, Councillor William Briggs OBE, and the Corporation, the Cadre and Colours of the 1st/5th Battalion parade in front of the Town Hall on their return from Germany via Ireland on 17th October 1919.  The Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel W G Hoare, DSO, stands to the left of the two mascots, Johnny, a white pony given by the 2nd Battalion, and Joey, an Indian mule found at Ypres in 1915.

Return of the Cadre of the 1st/5th Battalion, King's Own, who had spent time in Ireland after they had left Belgium in the summer of 1919.  Officers of the regiment are joined by the Mayor of Lancaster and others on the steps of Lancaster Town Hall 17th October 1919.
