Collections - Souvenirs

Penholder, Malo Les Baines, Dunkirk, 1940

  
Penholder with view of beach and the wording 'Malo Les Bains' picked up from the beach at Dunkirk by Platoon Sergeant Major James Bell of the 5th Battalion, King's Own Royal Regiment, on 2nd June 1940. 
Platoon Sergeant Major James Bell, number 3711297, a Lancaster man, served with the 5th Battalion and appears in the photograph of the Sergeants Mess in Christmas 1940.  He was discharged on 24th August 1941 in order to be commissioned into the Pioneer Corps.
