Regimental Cane

Regimental Cane Acquired by donor, Mrs E M Poyner Wall, in Darjeeling in 1914. The donor wrote the following in a letter with the cane:

“I was in Darjeeling when the King’s Own were leaving (1914) I wanted them to have a wave from me and the best of trips. They threw their canes to the standing public and this one that I have fell at my feet. We heard later that so many lost their lives so I treasured it!”

The 2nd Battalion, King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment, left India in October 1914, to return to England and then serve on the Western Front and later Salonika.
