Soldiers of the Regiment Captain Charles Dunlop Tracy Captain Charles Dunlop Tracy served with the King's Own in the First World War and he is noted for writing two books on the use of the revolver. Obituary from the Regimental Journal, The Lion and The Rose: Captain Charles Dunlop Tracy OBE, whose death at the age of 77 is announced, served with the King’s Own during the First World War. The following is extracted from the East Anglian Daily Times of 12 May 1948. “His prowess with the revolver was remarkable, and he opened schools
of instruction in this weapon all over the country. A crack shot with
both hands, he invented an entirely new method of teaching the use of a
revolver, and also wrote two books on the subject. Captain Tracy had
travelled extensively, crossing the Atlantic over 40 times. A keen
sportsman, he saw most of the famous boxing bouts of the ’nineties, and
was the friend of such personalities as Bob Fitzsimmons and Gentleman
Jim Corbett. Always interested in art, he first had one of his paintings
hung in the Royal Academy in 1911. Another was bought by Boston Museum,
and one, entitled ‘The Lonely Deep’, hangs in Christchurch Mansion,
Ipswich. He was a member of the Society of Maritime Artists.”
His later book, The Service Revolver and How to Use It, was published in 1918.
