Colonel James Wynch

James Wynch was born in Yorkshire in 1763, son of Alexander Wynch, Governor of Madras.  He joined the King’s Own in August 1799 from the 36th Foot, becoming Lieutenant Colonel in the November.  He was wounded at Beverwyck, and again at Corunna whilst in command of the regiment.  He was appointed to command a brigade in the Light Division in the Peninsula but died of dysentery at Lisbon in 1811.
