Soldiers of the Regiment

Mr Dennis R L Ashworth


Mr Dennis R L Ashworth, of Lowerplace, Rochdale, who enlisted in the 4th King's Own, 24th January 1853 at Bury, Lancashire.  Served with the Regiment for two years and four months in the Crimean Campaign, Mauritius one month, and the East Indies seven years and one month (including during the Indian Mutiny).  The remainder of his service was completed at Edinburgh and Dublin.  Awarded Crimean Medal with clasps for Sevastopol, Indian Mutiny Medal & Volunteer Long Service Medal.  He was discharged 28th April 1865 and afterwards served 26 years with the Rochdale Volunteers.  He also has the Royal Humane Society's Testimonial for saving life at Rochdale, 1875.
