Overseas Service Chevrons, First World War


Three stripe overseas service chevron, First World War.
Accession Number: KO0509/03


Five stripe overseas service chevron, worn by Sergeant Albert Holt of the 1st/5th Battalion, King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.  Noting overseas service in 1915 to 1919.

Front and Rear of overseas service chevrons issued in the First World War as worn by Lieutenant Colonel L I Cowper of the King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.
Red chevron for 1914 and four blue for 1915-1918. Overseas Service Chevrons were approved in December 1917 and issued from the beginning of 1918. A soldier was entitled to wear an inverted blue chevron for each year (or part year) of service on the right forearm near the cuff. Those who had served abroad before 31st December 1914 also wore a red chevron.
