Served in South African Campaign 1901. Captain and DSO 1901. ADC to General Officer Commanding Southern Army India 1906-08. Assistant Military Secretary to General Sir Archibald Hunter, Governor of Gibraltar, 1910. MVO 1913. Major 3 Sep 1914. Commanded Company at Battle of Meteren 13 Oct 1914. Temporary Lieutenant Colonel 10 Dec 1914. Brevet Lieutenant Colonel 1 Jan 1916. Brigadier General 1916. Commanding Service Battalion, Manchester Regiment 20 Oct 1916. Retired 6 Nov 1919 being granted rank of Honorary Brigadier on retirement. Succeeded to Baronetcy on death of his father.
