The unveiling of the East African Memorial, Nairobi, Kenya, 1956.
This memorial, to the officers and men of the Land Forces of the Commonwealth, was unveiled by General Sir Alan Cunningham, CGMG, KCB, DSO, MC, in the presence of His Excellency the Governor and Commander in Chief of Kenya, at Nairobi on 21st January 1956.
The grave of 2nd Lieutenant Norbury of the King's Own Royal Regiment is in the new cemetery.  He was killed in action in Abyssinia on 22nd April 1941, while serving with the 3rd Battalion, The Gold Coast Regiment.
The King's Own was represented at the unveiling ceremony by Captain D D Harrison, who is at General Headquarters, East Africa Command.  He writes that in spite of poor weather, the ceremony was very impressive from beginning to end.
