The Great War News from Lancaster in 1914

12th September 1914

Departure of the “Pals” Companies

No “Soldiers of the King” were ever acclaimed with greater enthusiasm by Lancastrians than the men forming the two “pals” companies of the 5th King’s Own Regiment when they bid their friends adieu on their way to foreign service via Didcot on Sunday night. In the morning the men attended divine service at the Parish Church, when the Vicar, Rev J U N Bardsley gave an appropriate address.
