Colonels of the King's Own Royal Regiment

Hon Piercy Kirke

Son of George Kirke and Marry (nee Townsend). Married Lady Mary Howard, daughter of the Earl of Suffolk. His career in the Army started when he became a Cornet in the Earl of Oxford’s Own Troop, 9 September 1670. Lieutenant 4 October 1774. Appointed Lieutenant Colonel 2nd Tangier Regiment (4th King’s own) 13 July 1680. Governor of Tangier in March 1682. Colonel of the Old or 1st Tangier Regiment (2nd Queen’s) 4 May 1682. Major General 2 December 1888. Lieutenant General 25 December 1690. Died at Brussels 31 October 1691.
